A small gift for your office

The ORCA animation for the screens in your practice — the front desk, the consultation room, the waiting area. Free, no sign-up, and nothing that asks for a licence key.

This is it, running right here in your browser.

Open it full screen

The easiest way: no installing anything

Open that link on the screen in your waiting room — a TV, a tablet, a spare monitor — and put the browser in full screen (F11 on Windows, Control + Command + F on a Mac). That is all. No download, no installer, no permission from whoever looks after your computers.

It also works offline once the page has loaded, so a patchy connection in the back office will not interrupt it.

Or install it properly

It only installs the screen saver. Your wallpaper and everything else on the computer are left exactly as they are.

The ORCA logo builds itself

The four brush strokes of the ORCA tooth fly in from the sides, the logo assembles, turns twice and comes apart again — over a softly blurred view of the laboratory’s own website. The clock and the date keep real time.

How to install it

Windows 10 and 11
  1. Unzip the file you downloaded into a folder — your Desktop is fine.
  2. Double-click 1-build.bat. A black window appears for a few seconds and creates ORCA.scr. This uses a compiler Windows already has; nothing is downloaded from the internet.
  3. Double-click 2-install.bat. It installs the screen saver, switches it on after 5 minutes of inactivity, and sets the ORCA wallpaper.

If Windows shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” box: click More info and then Run anyway. Windows says that about every file downloaded from the internet that it has not seen before. Nothing here needs administrator rights, and nothing is installed for other users of the computer.

To see it straight away, right-click ORCA.scr and choose Test.

To change the timing afterwards, Windows 11 hides this screen rather well. The quickest way is to press the Windows key, type screen saver and open Change screen saver. Through the menus it is Settings → Personalization → Lock screen → Screen saver. There is also a shortcut: press Windows + R, type control desk.cpl,,1 and press Enter — that opens the classic window directly.

Mac macOS 11 and later
  1. Unzip the file you downloaded.
  2. Double-click Install ORCA of Houston.command.
  3. Done. It installs the screen saver, switches it on after 5 minutes and sets the wallpaper.

If macOS says it cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer: right-click the file, choose Open, and then Open again in the box that appears. You only have to do this the first time.

To change it afterwards: System Settings → Screen Saver. On macOS 14 and later you also have to pick it there by hand the first time — look for ORCA of Houston in the list.
